I’ve never really bought into the beauty market, let us be clear –
I’m not a beauty blogger
and I don’t waste hundreds of pounds on lotions and potions. However, when I find something I love, I like to share the joy, so here are the latest five beauty products I am loving right now:
I’ve never been a fan of fake tan either, being streaky and smelling of biscuits definitely does not appeal. I’ve always preferred the pale and interesting “English Rose” look. I don’t tan well, I’m not a sun worshipper. I like to look after my skin. Being pale has never bothered me, but lately I’m sick of looking like an extra out of the Addams Family at the side of my other half. He tans well, he has olive skin, only has to look at the sun and he’s brown. I on the other hand go a fetching shade of lobster and then fade through various shades of pink pack to a whiter shade of pale.
I saw this reviewed somewhere and decided to give it a go and grab some next time I saw it. It’s really easy to apply, foolproof even. Simply shower as normal, turn the water off, apply generously in circular movements, rinse your hands paying attention to your palms and then wait three minutes before rinsing off. The hardest part is waiting three minutes and knowing if it’s long enough. I was tempted to call R in and make him count it out but instead decided to count the circles on the shower curtain and stop at 180. Waiting for fake tan to work is as boring as watching paint dry – but somewhat quicker.
A thorough rinse later you just pat yourself dry and get dressed – simples. We had an evening on the patio in my pjs and by the time we headed to bed I could already see a slight glow. No mess on the sheets, no malty biscuit or chemical smell. Best of all – no streaks!
Unfortunately I didn’t take a before photo so I decided an after one was no good either – you’ll just have to take my word for it that it works. I used it again the next morning to deepen the colour a bit and I’m well chuffed. I went for the light colour, so glad I didn’t opt for medium as I think it would definitely be too dark for me. Overall I’d give it a five out of five and it is my top beauty buy of the summer!
These babies changed my life! Wearing a wig I love the perk of being able to do my own hair, however it’s time consuming even with the added bonus of doing the back with it on a mannequin head. I don’t like using heated appliances as we all know the damage they can do to your hair and when your hair cost £600 and damage doesn’t grow out – you take care of it!
I wanted a different look for Miss I’s wedding and as I was wearing a fascinator (or yucca plant as R calls it), I thought curls would be nice. I watched a video of how to use these and as my hair is similar length and thickness to Fern Cotton’s I thought it would work out ok.
They cost £60 so it’s not exactly cheap and already owning a set of GHD straighteners and tongs I was hoping they would work. They did! So easy too. You simply heat them for around 5-10 minutes (take note as ALL reviews say, the ready light does not work) and then pop one out, roll a section of your hair around it, close it and leave to cool. I did my whole head using all 18 pods and then left them – for two hours while Mr F drove me to our hotel. Luckily I have the bonus of being able to wear spare hair and avoiding an Elsie Tanner impersonation. Once I unwound them, a quick spritz of hairspray was all that was needed at they lasted ALL day and well into the night.
The next morning I brushed out the curls into glamorous waves which lasted a few days. I am genuinely impressed. The downside is that the unit is not portable like tongs or straighteners and the hair do is a little too glamorous for day to day wear for me. I did my hair again like this for an anniversary date with R last week and he loved it. Again the waves lasted easily for the weekend and withstood being tied up at the seaside.
I’d recommend for medium to long hair types and definitely for wig wearers as they do not get too hot and damage your tresses.
Just read my recent post to understand why – more on those coming later. It’s now been five days since I applied and they withstood gardening, furniture assembly, a day out to the seaside, lots of other nail action and lots of typing. So far they are holding up great!
Firstly on this I have to admit I balked at the price, £125 on a toothbrush?! I must be mad. I had an electric toothbrush somewhere but I’d lost the charger and that was the downside of it – charging the damn things are a pain, finding an adaptor, putting it somewhere to charge where it will stay clean and not attract the attention of the cat – no Treacle it is not a toy! The Philips DiamondClean answered my prayers with a USB charging cable that I can use with my iPhone charger, hallelujah! As for keeping it clean while it charges, not a problem – the whole case acts as a charging dock so I can keep it clean. Best yet it comes with a cute glass which also charges it.
That alone is enough for me to love this but it also does give a really good clean. The downside is replacement heads are expensive but then once I stocked up for the year I forgot about the d£30 dent in my finances. On the plus my dentist thinks it has definitely made a difference to my dental health too 😀
Ever since I was about 11 I have always left the house with some sort of colour on my lips – it’s how I was raised. Now I’m not talking bright red lipstick, when I was younger it was definitely just tints and glosses. My makeup collection was always quite impressive thanks to regular donations from my mother and godmother’s extensive collections. My handbag always has at least three lip products in it.
Lately, I’d been favouring 12 and 14 hour stay put lipsticks at the request of the other half as they stay on me and don’t transfer to him. Whilst it is nice knowing you have decent colour all day, they are very drying. I popped one of these in my basket recently and I was not disappointed. The colour isn’t sheer – it’s a really good vibrant colour that lasts for a few hours when worn alone, but worn over a 12 hour lip stain in a similar colour this helps keep lips hydrated. It’s also fine to cover your man in kisses as it only leaves a sheer smudge of colour which can be rubbed off easily – or left on if he prefers 😉
These come in other colours but Pop of Passion is definitely my favourite.
